Sarah Williams papers, 1787-1851.

Documents the financial affairs of Sarah Williams including receipts, indentures, promissory notes, wills, debt assignments, court documents and a personal letter. The majority of the collection consists of debt receipts and payment records. Of particular interest are two handwritten copies of Sarah's last will and testament, which contain the most precise list of family members in the collection.

Sarah Williams was married to Benjamin Williams, a local silversmith in the town of Elizabeth, New Jersey. Together they reared four children: Elizabeth, Elias, Sarah and Jonas. Benjamin Williams died prior to 1789 and leaving no will, Sarah was appointed the administrator of his estate, which was auctioned off.
